Canada Unemployment Rate Steady at 5.2% in October
OTTAWA--Employment in Canada rose more sharply than expected in October, holding the jobless rate steady for the month.
Statistics Canada reported Friday that Canada's economy added a net 108,300 jobs in October, following a modest gain of 21,100 the month before. Market expectations were for a gain of 10,000 jobs for the month, according to economists at TD Securities.
The unemployment rate in October was unchanged at 5.2%. Expectations were for the jobless rate to tick up to 5.3%.
When calculated using U.S. Labor Department methodology, Canada's unemployment rate in October was unchanged at 4.1%.
