Freelance Creative Fiction Writer

$12/hr Starting at $50

I am a freelance writer, illustrator, and recent graduate of Rollins College (magna cum laude) with a BA in Anthropology and minors in Archaeology and Theatre Arts. I have written for The Odyssey (an online publication targeting millennials); researched, wrote, and edited the scripts for a short science-themed TV show on the Sarasota County Education Channel; been awarded over ten Scholastic Gold Keys for poetry, memoir, and short stories, as well as my 2D art (which received a nomination for the American Visionary Award); and on my own time, have written several novels (YA sci-fi, paranormal, and fantasy), for which I am currently pursuing publication. My background in anthropology—the study of cultures, linguistics, archaeology, and human biology/physiology—has given me the skill set needed to empathize well with people from all age groups, cultures, and walks of life, as well as knowledge on how to perform research on said people, thus making me adept at writing about characters much different from myself. I've mastered the ability to easily recognize problems and produce solutions, identify patterns, and think critically. My background in theatre allows me to analyze story structure, character arcs, and to turn intangible thoughts into something that can be shared with others. In addition, my liberal arts education has also broadened my knowledge and interest in a wide variety of topics, from Roman history to the science behind superheroes. I pride myself on my never-ceasing love of learning, my ability to pick up new skills very quickly, and my knack for condensing large amounts of information into few words while still packing a punch. I am always willing and eager to try something new—in my art, my writing, and in life. My favorite things to write are sweeping speculative stories (particular for readers aged 12-25) with complex characters, high emotional stakes, and flashes of humor, but I also excel at expository writing. I also have a background in art, having taken classes in illustration, watercolor, photography, landscape drawing, and sculpture—great for tasks like drawing maps for fictional settings, and illustrating children's books. Some of my pieces are available on my Etsy store. Please contact me for a sample of my art. As a recent college graduate, I’m excited to get more professional experience under my belt and flex my writing and art skills in my newfound free time. I’m flexible, friendly, self-motivated, and willing to work with you as much as needed to make your vision a reality!
