I created many video-based assignments at University and learnt what was a good/bad angle/quality etc by trial-and-error. My final year dissertation was an interactive multimedia / video learning object which taught the user the basics of playing the guitar - and I won the annual prize for best dissertation that year! Since then I have been creating interactive learning objects in my professional life for the Police service, an international energy company and an aviation defense contractor, and part of the job that I love the most if creating and editing video.
