This kind of editing basically involves the rigorous analysis of a written work. I include line, substantive, and developmental editing as "heavy" editing tasks. I will look at your whole work with a highly critical eye and help you think through its ideas, structure, themes, and overall effect. Where there are glaring grammatical or stylistic errors or inconsistencies, I will correct those too. But my concern is not with crossed t's and dotted i's; it is with your ideas and their communication. This is how heavy copyediting with me works: You give me a draft and explain the work and its audience, either by phone or in an email. I read and analyze the document, doing additional research and asking questions as necessary. Then I will send you the document with copious in-line comments, edits, and suggestions, along with thorough general feedback. This back-and-forth process continues until you feel like you've written a masterpiece.
