Medical communication & patient advocacy

$70/hr Starting at $70

I am a GMC registered medical doctor based in the UK, with the bulk of my clinical practice being internal medicine and emergency medicine. My passion for medicine, biology and writing was recognised early on, in the form of several research-related undergraduate awards.

I've hit the road on a personal journey of self-realisation (a.k.a. midlife crisis); I now have the opportunity to explore exercising my penchant for medicine, teaching and written communication in new ways.

Although I am open to considering requests that are beyond what I am about to suggest, I am offering my contribution to the following two domains: (1) medical/scientific communication and (2) patient advocacy.

(1) MEDICAL/SCIENTIFIC COMMUNICATION

Great ideas can be lost in sub-optimal communication; sometimes the packaging is just as important (if not more so) than the product. As unjust as it may seem, it’s a reality that we just have to deal with – it’s the world we find ourselves in.

If communication isn’t your forte, we can maximise the potential of your great ideas by optimising the quality of how you convey your message. In reverse, I am also happy to simplify the sub-optimal communication you come up against and explain topics in a clear and understandable way.

Services I would consider assisting with include:

-Proofreading (theses, manuscripts for journals, articles & blog posts)

-Research support

-Facilitating comprehension of sources (comprehending journal papers/research sources pertaining to the area of investigation)

-Writing articles and content for blogs

-Teaching, tutoring, simplifying complex concepts

-Copywriting

I am open to considering assistance of the aforementioned nature in topics beyond medicine/biology.

(2) PATIENT ADVOCACY

Do you or your loved ones have electronic medical case notes that you are unable to decipher - be it for a complaint regarding suspected malpractice, or simply to better understand the course of clinical care thus far? Have you often wished that a medical doctor would go through the entire compendium of gobbledygook and present it in a readable manner?

Medical notes are notoriously difficult to decipher; even for medical professionals, it is not always a straightforward endeavour.

I'm happy to review case notes and discuss details from a clinical perspective, within the remits of my field of practice.

Although I can informally provide my view about a specific case and possibly make suggestions accordingly, it would not be appropriate for me to make recommendations, given the limitations of my involvement. Recommendations and responsibility remain with the treating medical team; discuss with the treating physician any suggestions I make.

I am happy to assist with the composition of letters of complaint, responses to correspondences and planning for discussion points at meetings and consultations.

This service is for facilitating understanding only. It has no legal value and is not to be used in court or for legal proceedings.
