This position is responsible for candidate who can maintain and enhance database performance, perform restores, implement recovery procedures, handle performance tuning and conduct regular system backups, while ensuring technical and functional designs meet business requirements. This position is responsible for configuring, maintaining, managing, monitoring, and supporting various City departmental databases and applications including SQL Server Database, Community Development, Laserfiche, SalesTax, RecTrac, and FullCourt. The ideal candidate will maintain, troubleshoot, tune, secure, support, and design servers and databases, while collaborating with others to resolve technology issues.
NB: The opening position is for USA and Canada residents only.
Job Responsibilities:
1) Plan and Manage installation of new instances of SQL Server as required.
2) Plan and manage upgrades of existing instances of SQL Server to insure all instances are operating on supported versions of the software at all times.
3) Design underlying database file structure and manage to optimize performance on an on-going basis.
4) Design and implement database backup strategy.
5) Design and implement a high availability database architecture including both Always-On and Read-Scale availability groups.
6) Monitor database performance on an ongoing basis.
7) Manage installation, configuration and upgrade of database performance monitoring software.
8) Develop a deep understanding of Asembia’s business systems through participation in application design sessions and translate business requirements into physical data models as required.
9) Monitor database performance on an on-going basis.
10) Serve as technical advisor to Application Developers on SQL best practices and performance tuning.
Job Requirements:
1) Working knowledge of Suse or Redhat Linux.
2) Knowledge of Database and Systems performance tools
3) Good problem-solving ability and interested in learning
4) Excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
5) Good verbal and written communication skills.
6) Ability to clearly and accurately document procedures.
7) Strong interpersonal communication - works well in a team environment and interface with numerous stakeholders.
8) Knowledge of Unix/Linux environments
9) Ability to adapt and learn new skills and evolving technologies
10) Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
11) 2+ years Database Administration experience.
