I am a screenwriter based in New York City. I have directed and produced psychological thrillers for several years. I have a list of ideas for horror feature films that I need help writing due to time constraints. I am happy to have someone else's input and enjoy creative suggestions. The goal would be to have continuous work with a ghost writer for the following reasons.
1. There are more plots that I am passionate about than there is time in the day for me to write them.
2.) | have worked with ghostwriters before and have enjoyed a more collaborative process.
3.) Writing together is my favorite way to engage with like-minded colleagues.
4.) Hearing other writer's thoughts and ideas has proven to improve on my concepts in the past.
5.) In my experience, longer term work relationships tend to become more and more fruitful as time goes on.
The main goal of any ongoing working relationship would be to stay true to the general concepts and themes that I am trying to develop out of these ideas - not to suppress creativity from a fellow creative mind. I am happy to work with anyone, but there are some reasonable requirements for this opportunity.
First, I would want to see sample of a script that was written within the past few years just to make sure our styles are aligned. Second, a description of any previous success within the industry. Third, I want to work with someone that I enjoy working with and that enjoys working with me; a general background of yourself and your interests (even if outside of film), as well as any other information that may help get a better idea of who you are would be greatly appreciated. What are your favorite films or books? Lastly, tell me why you are passionate about film or what makes you feel inspired.
Specifically, this job would be a roughly 20 page short horror film meant to become the basis of a full length film. Any script that we like will then be pitched to a team that I work with. This team mainly consists of me, a DP, and a producer who, when I provide a script that they like, raise money and turn the script into a film that we then pitch at film festivals, such as Tribeca Film Festival and Cannes FilmFestival.
My expectation would be a page an hour of writing as a minimum (hoping for 2 pages per hour for less complex plots), but am also happy to schedule creative consultations for any parts of the job that may benefit from a collaborative discussion with me. This means that the total hours on this job should be equivalent to the number of pages written PLUS any time scheduled with me to brainstorm or for any other reason deemed necessary by you, the ghostwriter.
If any job or concept seems too complex for one page an hour then we would need to agree on the adjusted rate within the first two pages of writing. I also may schedule time with you for various reasons that would of course be paid as well. for instance, certain scripts may require time spent on an outline and this time would be added to the job as well
I also do need concepts to be coming through somewhat regularly but there is no rush to the finish line, it is more about consistency. With the goal of a continuous working relationship, consistent output of quality scripts is the bread and butter.
