We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Counsel to assist in the preparation and presentation of a case before the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ). This case involves alleged violations of human rights, whistleblower retaliation, and potential breach of contract by the US government. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting legal research, preparing legal documents, and advising on strategy to achieve a just resolution. This role requires a deep understanding of international law, human rights law, and experience in dealing with complex legal and diplomatic matters.


Responsibilities:


  • Conduct thorough legal research on international law, human rights law, US law (relevant to whistleblower protection, false claims, contract law, and freedom of speech), and relevant case law.
  • Analyze and interpret complex legal documents, including contracts, government communications, and legal opinions.
  • Prepare and draft compelling legal documents, including diplomatic proposals, pleadings, submissions to the ICJ and UNHRC, and supporting documentation.
  • Develop and advise on legal strategies for pursuing the case, including identifying potential arguments, evidence, and legal precedents.
  • Assess the strengths and weaknesses of the case, and provide recommendations to strengthen the legal position.
  • Assist with the compilation and organization of evidence, including documents, witness statements, and other supporting materials.
  • Collaborate with and provide legal support to a team of international legal experts.
  • Stay abreast of developments in international law and human rights law.
  • Communicate effectively with legal counsel, the client, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from a reputable law school.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience practicing law, with a strong emphasis on international law, human rights law, and/or government accountability. Experience with litigation before international tribunals (e.g., ICJ, ICC, UN human rights mechanisms) is highly desirable.
  • Expertise in:
    • International law, including treaties, customary law, and the jurisdiction of the ICJ and UNHRC.
    • Human rights law, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
    • US law, specifically the Whistleblower Protection Act, False Claims Act, First Amendment rights (freedom of speech and press), and relevant contract law principles.
    • Experience with government accountability and public corruption cases is a significant asset.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
    • Exceptional ability to draft persuasive legal arguments and documents.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Knowledge:
    • Demonstrated understanding of the legal issues presented in the case of Caesar Manigault, including the alleged violations by the US government.
    • Familiarity with the disparities in media coverage and the implications of potential racial bias and government influence.
    • Understanding of the Statute of Limitations and its implications in similar cases.
    • Knowledge of US legal and government processes and procedures.
  • Language: Fluency in English is required. Fluency in additional languages is a plus.
