BERLIN (ANP/DPA) - A month of public transport for only 9 euros: this action seems to have caught on in Germany. Nearly a third of German adults (31 percent) say they have regularly used the cheap ticket and have left their car behind. That was exactly the purpose of the action.

Another 18 percent left the car completely to the left to travel with the 9 euro ticket. The German news agency DPA had this investigated through a representative survey of more than 2000 people.

Such a ticket was for sale in the months of June, July and August. It was valid for a month and was introduced to compensate for increased fuel prices and to help the climate. The ticket could (and can still be used until Wednesday) only on regional trains - not in high-speed trains or intercity trains - and in other public transport, such as buses, metro and trams.

Of the respondents, 18 percent say they will use public transport more often in the future, 22 percent do not plan to do so. The majority, 55 percent, only get on the train or bus more often if that is also possible with a discount ticket.
