A Chinese-American engineer has been jailed for 14 years for stealing trade secrets from Coca-Cola that she then used to set up a multimillion-dollar business in China.
Xiaorong You, 60, also known as Shannon You, was sentenced on Monday by a federal judge in Greenville, Tennessee, more than a year after she was convicted of charges including economic espionage and wire fraud.
She was found guilty of stealing trade secrets for the production a coating for the inside of drinks cans that cost nearly $120 million to develop, while working for Coca-Cola in Atlanta and Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, Tennessee, between 2017 and 2018.
