The prequel series episode opened with Cara in anguish as she cleaned up blood in the kitchen at Yellowstone Ranch after an ambush by Banner and his sheepherders killed John Dutton Sr and Bob Strafford and left her husband Jacob [Harrison Ford] and Elizabeth badly wounded.
Ranch foreman Zane Davis [Brian Geraghty] offered to finish cleaning, but Cara instructed him to send off her letter to Africa.

'Can't send a wire ...because then the world will know. We will ignore that this has happened. Never speak to it of anyone,' Cara told him.
Zane warned that Jacob's absence would be noticed at the upcoming Livestock Association meeting and Cara said she would go in his place.
