The Tobacco Board of Pakistan recently revealed that the number of female smokers has increased to 72%. The Pakistani Geo channel reported that a survey showed that the high number of female smokers prompted health experts to express real concerns about the serious health repercussions of this habit. Experts said that the increased rate of smoking was a major cause of increased rates of stress and depression among women, and added that the habit of smoking doubles the risk of stroke, as it strongly affects the safety of the reproductive system. Experts pointed out that the risk of stillborn babies and the possibility of lung disease among infants increases by 20 times in women who smoke, and they also indicated that bone density in smokers decreases, which increases the risk of fracture. Data indicates that there are more than 30 million smokers in Pakistan, and more than 80 billion cigarettes are smoked annually. 80% of lung diseases in women are due to smoking.
