A$AP Rocky arrested at Los Angeles airport as the suspect of a November shooting
Police arrested A$AP Rocky Wednesday at the Los Angeles airport in connection with a November shooting, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed in a statement.
The rapper, who was named as a suspect in the shooting, was returning from a trip in Barbados with singer Rihanna, his girlfriend who is pregnant with the couple's first child, when officers detained him at the Los Angeles International Airport before arresting him for "assault with a deadly weapon."
Rocky, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, had been part of an ongoing investigation into a Nov. 6 shooting in which an argument escalated and "resulted in the suspect firing a handgun at the victim," according to the tweeted statement from the LAPD Wednesday. The victim, according to police, received medical attention sustaining only minor injuries. Police say Rocky and two other men fled the scene on foot.
"Detectives worked diligently to investigate and corroborate the reporting information which helped identify the suspect(s) involved," police said in the statement.
USA TODAY has reached out to Rocky's lawyers and reps as well as the Los Angeles Police Department for more information.
The 33-year-old rapper has faced legal trouble in the past after being detained in Sweden after a street fight in 2019.
Mayers claimed self-defense during the trial, alleging two men were harassing his entourage. Mayers told the Stockholm District Court that one of the men picked a fight with his bodyguard after he pleaded with them to stop following his group.

The jury found Mayers guilty of assault and the judge handed down "conditional sentences," indicating the rapper could be sent to jail if he commits another similar crime in Sweden and was ordered to pay a fine of $1,307 (12,500 kronor).
Rocky has been in the limelight as he awaits parenthood with Rihanna. In Vogue's May cover story, Rihanna divulged about her relationship with the "Praise The Lord" rapper despite being hesitant to take him out of the "friend zone."

"I certainly took a while to get over how much I know him and how much he knows me, because we also know how much trouble we can land each other in," Rihanna told the magazine, adding that after spending a lot of time together in quarantine the two became "family."
"I just feel like I can do any part of life by his side," she said.
