- Ana de Armas plays Marilyn Monroe in Netflix's new movie "Blonde."
Ana de Armas visited Marilyn Monroe's tomb to ask for permission to play her role in "Blonde".
"We got this big card and everyone on the crew wrote a letter to her," de Armas said in an interview with AnOther magazine published Tuesday.
Then we went to the cemetery and put it on its grave. We were asking for permission in some way."
The original Netflix film, written and directed by Andrew Dominique, attempts to focus women behind the cultural symbol. Filming began on August 4, the anniversary of Monroe's death.
"Everyone felt a great responsibility, and we were fully aware of the side of the story we're going to tell – the story of Norma Jane, the person behind this character, Marilyn Monroe." "His weight definitely stayed with me."
This isn't the first time the film's participants have talked about feeling the weight of Monroe's spirit in production. Dominique compared filming in locations where Monroe once lived to "séance" at a press conference when the film premiered at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, the Guardian reported earlier this month.
During the same press conference in early September, de Armas stated that she believed Monroe's spirit visited Los Angeles during filming.
"I really think she was very close to us. She was with us."
"I think she was happy. She would also throw things out of the wall at times and get angry if she didn't like something. This may seem very vague, but it's true. We all felt it."
The film "Shaqra" is currently being shown in selected theaters. It will premiere on Netflix on September 28.
