My first company, Wordwise (a sole tradership), was a freelance language service for editing and translation. When I resigned from the South African Parliament (after five years as a Hansard reporter) in 1992 this concern evolved into a full-time business employing several freelance staff and providing the following services to clients:
Transcription, editing and publication of the proceedings of conferences and hearings, as well as interviews and public announcements. Some major transcription and editing projects successfully completed, included:
- 1992-1993: Parliamentary Press Briefings to the Foreign Media (a week-long media briefing by South African government ministers and other prominent leaders).
- 1993: Conference on Farmworkers' Rights - Centre for Rural Legal Studies & Lawyers for Human Rights.
