The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin last week. Hungary will not arrest him if he sets foot on Hungarian territory. Austria will.
According to the arrest warrant, any country that has signed the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court must arrest Putin if he enters that country's territory. Hungary declared this week that the Rome Statute is contrary to the Hungarian constitution.
"Arrest warrants issued by the Court must be executed and persons sought by the Court must be arrested," the Austrian Ministry of Justice told Austrian public broadcaster ORF.
