I have been starting using English intensely since my second-year as undergraduate student because I entered English-class program. I used to read English research papers, presented the subjects and wrote the reports in English. I also used English during my Master, Doctoral Degree programs, as well as Post-Doctoral Researcher in Gifu University, Japan, for writing papers, presenting research, as well as interacting with people in seminars. I took TOEIC test recently with the score 860. I passed N3 Level for JLPT (Japanese Proficiency). I lived in Japan for 6.5 years where the lab members and teachers were mostly Japanese. My capability to understand Japanese speaking person as well as conversation is moderate but I would say that I am at basic level in Kanji. I wrote using Kanji and remembered it sometimes but mostly for the words that I often see.
