Jailed Belarusian opposition leader Maria Kolesnikova suffered a health crisis and was taken from prison and placed in intensive care in hospital, according to political allies in Belarus.
Maria Kolesnikova, 40, is in serious condition but is currently stable and in a hospital in the eastern city of Gomel after undergoing surgery on Monday.
The authorities sentenced the political opposition to 11 years in prison in 2021, after mass protests against the re-election of Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.
She commented on her sentence that all charges against her were fabricated.
