The White House said on Wednesday that US President Joe Biden intends to nominate diplomat Hero Mustafa Garg as US ambassador to Egypt, according to Reuters news agency.
The White House added that Mustafa Garg's previous positions include her work as ambassador to Bulgaria from 2019 to 2023 and senior positions in the US embassies in Lisbon and New Delhi.
Candidate Mustafa held several diplomatic positions in the US government, as she worked as an advisor to former Vice President Joe Biden for Middle East affairs, and also held the position of deputy director of the Afghanistan office in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and also worked at the US Embassy in Portugal and a political advisor to the embassy in New Delhi, India.
Hero Mustafa was born in the Erbil governorate in the Kurdistan region of Iraq in 1973. She spent two years of her childhood in a refugee camp, and in 1976 her family was granted asylum in the United States, according to Iraqi Kurdish media.
