Bizarre moment Waukesha Christmas parade

$15/hr Starting at $25

Day two of the trial against the man accused of driving his car through a Waukesha, Wisconsin Christmas parade kicked off with the defendant reading the Bible and ended with him once again being removed from the courtroom.

Darrell Brooks, 40, is charged with 77 counts, including six counts of murder, for allegedly driving through a parade on November 21, 2021.

Dozens were injured and six were killed in the incident.

On Monday, the man was thrown out of court by Judge Jennifer Dorow after he repeatedly interrupted her with antics about his own name and her qualifications.

Tuesday's interactions with Dorow and Brooks looked all too familiar.

Just moments after starting, the accused had interrupted Dorow 'no less than half a dozen time' according to The Waukesha Freeman, 'asking the judge what her name is' and 'refusing to recognize his own name.'

Multiple potential jurors were dismissed after telling the judge that they had financial concerns that could accompany a four week trial, while others said that caretaking responsibilities would preclude them from the job.

Brooks also asked that an entire slate of jurors be released but his request was denied because he 'failed to provide a basis to do so in law or fact.'

Just after 9am, Brooks was removed from the main courtroom and remanded to an adjacent room where he was added into the proceedings via Zoom.

'He's interrupted, take him to the next courtroom,' Dorow said.

During Tuesday's proceedings, Brooks claimed he was 'sovereign,' but then took issue with Dorow referencing him as a 'sovereign citizen.'

'I claim to be sovereign...let's correct the record right now,' Brooks said.

'All right, you believe you're sovereign,' Dorow responds.

Part of the issues faced in the courtroom could be attributed to Dorow's decision to let the defendant represent himself.

The rocky day in court, still just part of the jury selection process, comes after a first day in court filled with similar disruptive methods utilized by Brooks.

Upon dialing in remotely, Brooks read from a Bible and apparently screamed at Dorow while removing his mask.

'Mr. Brooks, we need to continue, please stop,' Dorow asked him at one point over Zoom.

'I will not,' the man responded.

The judge, fed up with his actions, muted him.

'He's standing, he's facing the other direction, it appears he's yelling. I muted him,' the judge stated.

The attorneys argued in the motion they need at least six months to study more than 300 videos of the parade, break down the SUV's speed throughout the incident, review the police interrogation of Brooks and reach out to potential expert witnesses.
