I edit fiction and non-fiction manuscripts for a small publisher, and I am a judge for the annual Ink & Insights contest, plus a full-time author. I have a packed schedule, but I work relatively quickly. I correct small mistakes as I go using "track changes," but any issues I see recurring or that need to be addressed, will be explained with "what and why" they need correction, plus how to fix it. 

I don't want to hand you a fish, I want you to learn how to fish for yourself. Your next novel will automatically be better from the beginning as you grow through each draft. 

I will do two rounds with the author, but it shouldn't take more than that. If more work is needed, we'll continue until you are satisfied. 

What am I checking for? To be honest, everything. Punctuation, spelling, and grammar, plus some sentence structure and clarity. I'm looking for story structure and plot holes, concept, and character plausibility. I want your writing to flow and will discuss pacing, and word use. 

However, I am not your first line of defense--rarely do I edit from a rough draft. I am a polisher. I am not solely a copy editor, more than a developmental editor. Once you have corrected changes, I will work to make your manuscript publisher-ready before you query or self-publish.

I specialize in young adult fiction, especially fantasy, and sci-fi, with romance. I have edited books in many genres: Mystery, horror, romance, Christian, YA, Middle Grade, Adult, women's fiction, thriller, memoir, Scifi, fantasy, children's, and more. I'm not a big fan, however, of descriptive erotica or gross-out horror. I am happy to discuss any manuscript.
