Systematically analyze business requirements for IT solutions and produce documentation to be given to implementation team. Derive test cases from the requirements. I believe that a thorough analysis of requirements captured in a systematic way is fundamental to creating great software. A detailed document capturing all functional and non-functional requirements should be the corner stone for further stages in software development. I approach such an analysis from the view points of relevant stakeholders and business processes involved and then build from there. My experience is that such an approach helps clarify the scope and prioritize activities based on business criticality. The other side of requirements is of course verifying that the system fulfills these requirements. An exhaustive test case design helps to confirm the completeness of solutions and identify gaps.
