Michael is resident physician in the Osler Medical Residency Training Program at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, the country's first medical residency program. Dr. Poku completed his MBA at Harvard Business School and his MD at Vanderbilt. Dr. Poku has global management consulting experience working for a global consulting firm and healthcare investing experience.. Dr. Poku has also worked to train and supervise project teams to execute value-based care delivery through a time-driven activity based costing approach with the support, training, and guidance of Harvard Business School Professors Robert Kaplan and Michael Porter. Dr. Poku has also performed in a number roles and activities at an academic medical center including implementing enhanced provider communication tools, developing telemedicine strategy, evaluating and optimizing specialty drug utilization for the Center's Health Plan, evaluating a centralized call center for the Primary Care Administration, serving on an executive steering committee for episodes of care and bundled care arrangements. Dr. Poku has also served as an independent consultant for a healthcare planning, design, and facility construction firm. Dr. Poku has ample intellectual property experience, serving as an independent consultant for an IP law firm as well as for an IP management company. Dr. Poku has served on the board for a number of 501c3 nonprofit groups, as a mayoral-appointed committee member for Nashville's Ryan White Committee.
