Expert Business Intelligence developer with 10 years experience in this field.  I have worked in a number of reporting tools across various business functions to deliver high quality dashboards and reports, helping  organisations get actionable information from their data.  

I have built entire ETL processes and designed each stage of the data journey from first sourcing the data, loading data, cleaning, storing and modelling the data to then creating reports and visuals on top.  I am very comfortable using SQL and have a lot of experience with Snowflake and Oracle data warehouses.  Whenever I am building a data model, I try to design a dimensional model as it brings many benefits to the reporting layer such as data efficiency when running queries, makes the data reusable that can feed multiple reports or dashboards and it’s easy to modify as business requirements change.  This can be implemented either in the data warehouse or a BI application such as power BI.

When it comes to visualising the data, I’ve found it’s best when the data can tell a story.  Building dashboards isn’t worth it if user adoption is low, therefore it’s important that when deciding which visuals to use, thought is put into the user experience and what questions they want to ask.  Power BI is my preferred tool as it’s the one I’ve spent the most time using which has made me very competent in using power query and Dax.  Other tools I have experience with are Oracle reports (OBIEE, BI Publisher, Hyperion) and Qlik.

Through my experience I have been able to publish dashboards for Sales, marketing, supply chain, professIona services, commercial management teams with different data and requirements coming from each.  Ensuring data is refreshed and up to date is also an integral element of the BI lifecycle.  Users need to feel confident that the data they are looking at is the latest and they can trust it.  This can be done through scheduling data refreshes and configuring alerts for any issues that are encountered when the app is refreshing the data.
