Phil did a very nice job implementing code changes for a motor controller. He did a lot of background work understanding the code and setting up an apparatus to test the code changes. Phil also knows how to 'follow orders while making independent decisions'. By this I mean he can simultaneously achieve the stated project goals while adding his own contributions to the goals, decisions that the employer will appreciate later - a very desirable combination of attributes for technical work.
