Cassie wanted to keep some of her initial reaction to herself after she was asked how she felt when Colton announced that he was gay.
I feel like this is a very loaded question because I can t necessarily talk a lot about it, she said, via People. I m very happy that he, you know, is at peace with himself and not carrying that burden anymore, of course.
But she didn t receive the news as positively as she could have because of all her previous conflicts with the Bachelor star.
It was a very just overall hard time for me, so I feel like there was just one thing after another and I was just extremely overwhelmed with everything going on, Cassie continued.
But things turned sour between the former couple after they announced their split in May of 2020.
In July of that year, Cassie urged her ex not to monetize on their breakup by writing a new chapter of his book The First Time without giving her approval.
Things got more tense between the exes in September, when Cassie filed for a restraining order against Colton.

Cassie noted that she was caught off guard when Colton first revealed that he was gay, though she added, Today I m doing great. I m fine!
The two met when she competed on Colton s season of The Bachelor in 2019. She left toward the end of the season after not seeing a future as a couple, but Colton convinced her to return and selected her as the winner.
Cassie also claimed in her filing that he had sent messages from the number to himself to disguise its origins.

Today Cassie asked the court to dismiss the temporary restraining order against me, he said. The two of us were able to reach a private agreement to address any of Cassie’s concerns. I do not believe Cassie did anything wrong in filing for the restraining orders and also believe she acted in good faith. I appreciate everyone’s respect for privacy regarding this matter.
Colton shared a public apology to Cassie after he came out in April 2021.
