Manchester City beat Real Madrid 4-3 on Tuesday evening at the Etihad Stadium in the first leg of the semi-finals of the European Champions League.
The return match will be held at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in the Spanish capital next week.
Manchester City were the better side for most of the match and he can regret not being able to add more goals that would have comforted him in the first leg. And due to the absence of full-backs Joao Cancelo and Kyle Walker due to suspension and injury, respectively, his coach, Pep Guardiola, decided to include John Stones on the left side and Oleksandr Zychenko on the right.
On the other hand, Real Madrid led its top scorer, French Karim Benzema, assisted by the Brazilians Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo.
Not 93 seconds passed until City opened the scoring through its Belgian playmaker Kevin De Bruyne from a header, taking advantage of the individual effort on the right flank and a perfect pass from Riyad Mahrez to outrun Real defender Daniel Carvajal and block it to the right of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
And soon City added the second goal after a pass by De Bruyne inside the area, David Alaba made a mistake in dispersing it, and it reached striker Jesus, who turned on himself and shot it into the net from a short distance (10).
Guardiola's team almost added the third goal after a quick counterattack in which the ball reached Mahrez, who entered the area and fired a powerful ball with his right that hit the post and exited (26).
And the first real opportunity for Real Madrid was when the striker Benzema curled a ball inside the area. Alaba rose above Robin Diach and hit a header that passed to the side of the post (30).
Then the Royal Club succeeded in reducing the difference when left-back Ferland Mendi passed a cross into the area, and Benzema hit it on the ground and then the post and wobbled into the net (33).
City's pressure paid off when the Brazilian Fernandinho, who replaced the injured defender John Stones in the first half, raised a ball inside the area, which Foden followed with his head into the net from a short distance (53). However, City did not enjoy long, because the Brazilian Vinicius Junior made a great individual effort when he walked alone from the middle of the field and was alone with his compatriot goalkeeper Ederson and shot from his left, reducing the difference again (55).
But City refused to score another goal when the Portuguese Bernardo Silva fired a missile from inside the area with his left, and Courtois watched it as it embraced his net (74).
And Mahrez made a wonderful dance break inside the area and hit a ball in front of the goal door, but he did not find anyone to follow it into the net (76).
