Here's what I do not do: I never use the computer for artwork. Everything is hand-drawn and hand-painted ( usually with watercolors ). I feel that the artist can incorporate more expression, feelings, action and mood when hand drawn. Most of the books I've illustrated have been whimsical in nature...mostly Children's books. I'm pleased that I've had repeat authors ( showing confidence in my work for their written words ) come to me with their newest literary efforts. Keeping in constant contact with the author is a MUST. I want my drawing to communicate what they have written.
