Children's books are not like other illustrations. They require consistency throughout the project, a sense of the tone of the book translated into the visual quality, and something fresh and different. I can provide all those qualities. My skills and styles have a wide range. I am proficient creating sketch line art, such as Alan Tiegreen used in the Ramona books or Garth Williams used for the Little House series. I can work in watercolors and acrylics to create flowing and beautiful illustrations, such as Nancy Ekholm Burkert created for the Dahl books. I can work within strong outlines to create more cartoon-like characters. I am proficient in ink, acrylic paint, and watercolor painting. I am also adept with adobe photoshop, so the image that I create and scan into the digital realm can be perfected with layers and textures, slight contrasting and filters. I always enjoy the challenge of looking at the world through the magical lens of childhood again and bringing an author's words to life.
