Reno Omokri has challenged Pastor Enoch Adeboye to put the Redeemed Christian Church of God's political arms to order.
After Vanguard reported that RCCG's Head of Politics and Governance, Pastor Timothy Olaniyan, openly campaigned for Yemi Osinbajo over the weekend, Omokri made the call.
Olaniyan was cited as saying that Osinbajo is a man of God capable of transforming Nigeria's governance narrative.
Omokri, on the other hand, warned that if Osinbajo's open campaign continued, things will come apart.
Omokri, who is also a pastor, penned the following:
"It is quite risky for the Redeemed Christian Church of God to promote Osinbajo politically." Churches exist to spread the gospel. If churches and mosques begin to endorse candidates, they are no longer religious institutions and must begin paying taxes!
"It's fine if the candidates go to the church and ask Pastor Adeboye for prayers and blessings. Things start to fall apart when the Redeemed Christian Church of God establishes a political directorate, and the head of that section begins openly advocating for Osinbajo in his official role.
"How would Pastor Adeboye and members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God react if Sultan Sa'ad Abubakar, the Sarkin Musulumi, orders Muslims to queue after Bola Tinubu because he is a Muslim?" Before they start what they can't finish, GO Adeboye should call the RCCG's political directorate to order!
Prior to the 2023 General Elections, the RCCG established a department on politics and governance in March 2022.
The Office of Directorate of Politics and Governance" will assist members with political ambitions, according to the church, which has millions of adherents and over 32,000 branches around the country.
The church also instructed its branches to establish a provincial officer for this new department at all levels.
"You are respectfully invited to nominate a Provincial officer for your Province with immediate effect, and to guarantee that the same is done at other levels of the Church, including Zone, Area, and Parish." The purpose of this Directorate is to assist in the coordination of our people's willingness to participate in politics.
Timothy Olaniyan, a church member, was chosen to lead the office.
However, some members of the public, primarily social media users, have connected the move to Nigeria's Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo's presidential ambitions.
