MIAMI, Fla. – A trio of double-figure scorers wasn't enough as the Charlotte men's basketball team fell at FIU, 62-60 on Thursday night inside the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
The loss ends Charlotte's (11-4, 2-2 C-USA) four-game win streak over FIU (7-7, 1-2 C-USA).
The Niners were led in scoring by sophomore Aly Khalifa who finished the night with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, with 10 of his 15 points coming in the second half. The Alexandria, Egypt native also ended the night with four rebounds and a trio of assists.
Joining Khalifa in double figures was Montre' Gipson who scored 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting—including a trio of 3-point makes—and Brice Williams who concluded the night with 10 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The tie was a back-and-forth affair for the entirety of the 40 minutes. In the opening half Charlotte jumped out a lead as large as nine in the opening 10 minutes.
FIU inched its way back into the contest over the remainder of the half, before the programs traded buckets in the final minutes to head into the locker room even at 33.
Out of the locker room, the teams continued to go bucket-for-bucket with the lead changing hands five times in the period.
Ultimately, the Panthers scored with just under two minutes to play in what would be the night's winning bucket. CLT had the ball twice with less than a minute to play, but just couldn't find the game-tying bucket.
UP NEXT
Charlotte will make a quick turnaround when it travels up the Florida coast to take on FAU in Boca Raton on Saturday afternoon. The opening tip from Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena is set for 2 p.m. ET on CUSA.tv.
