Coach carrying schoolchildren overturns

$5/hr Starting at $25

A coach carrying dozens of schoolchildren has overturned - sparking a huge emergency response, including two air ambulances.

Police confirmed that there were no life-threatening injuries, although some children were taken to hospital for further care.

Two air ambulances were tasked to crash - Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance - landing near the scene to provide emergency care.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident to stablise the coach and ensure the scene was safe for medics to work.

Numerous Hazardous Area Response Team units were sent to the incident alongside a significant number of other ambulance resources.

Avon and Somerset Police said: "Emergency services have been called to an incident involving a bus near Frome this afternoon (Monday 28 November).

"Police received a call from a member of the public at approximately 3.35pm, that a bus had overturned on the B3090 Oldford Hill.

"A number of passengers, including schoolchildren, received minor injuries and were checked over by paramedics at the scene.

"A small number are being taken to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment or assessment. Their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening or life-changing.

"Officers are liaising with the school, as well as the parents of children involved in this incident.

"Enquiries will continue at the scene to establish the cause of the collision. The road is likely to remain closed for some time, so we'd ask motorists to avoid the area if possible."

In a statement Frome College said: "This afternoon a coach carrying our students and staff was involved in a road traffic accident outside Oldford.

"The emergency services remain on the scene, along with our principal and vice principal.

"We have been informed that there are no life-threatening injuries.

"We will issue a further statement once all the details are established and ask that you do not speculate or post details of the accident on social media."
