During my 4 year studies at IIT Roorkee, I have always believed that passion and hard-work are the keys to victory. During my sophomore year at IIT Roorkee, I joined Software Development Section (SDS), IIT Roorkee - a group of talented software developers and designers. At SDS, I worked on creating a ranking system for our intercollege programming website and also contributed to some open source libraries like Boost C++. SDS helped me get comfortable with product level programming and development. In Spring 2014, I was introduced to various data structures and algorithms by the department’s DS course and I found them really intriguing. The sheer mental challenge every problem proposed was very fascinating and the ways in which different people solved these problems were very interesting. I also joined the Programming and Algorithms Group (PAG), IIT Roorkee. Now I am the coordinator of PAG, and we aim at spreading programming awareness on the campus and organizing international coding contests and lecture series to motivate and guide other interested students. In the summer of 2016, I was presented with the opportunity to intern for Microsoft IDC and I gladly accepted it. It was my introduction to industrial work, and I worked closely with Azure Backup Team at Microsoft. My task was to develop a way to let Azure Virtual Machines take application consistent backups by designing a suitable framework. I successfully completed my intern because of the consistent help and support provided by my teammates. However, the most important thing that happened during the internship was that I got introduced to advanced machine learning and its various applications by the Microsoft Data Science Meet. Although I had attended Introduction to Artificial Intelligence class by dept., but this was the first time I witnessed the impact of Machine Learning in real life situations at such a large scale. I got really curious and started reading a lot on the internet. Seeing new innovative stuff on Github and Twitter inspired me a lot and I realized what I had been missing out on. I wanted to discover more, and without wasting further time, I started CS-231n course on Deep Learning by Stanford. This course strengthened my understanding of Deep Learning concepts and played a crucial role in motivating me in the field of Deep Learning and AI. After this, I also did courses on AI for Robotics by GaTech, Udacity Self-Driving Cars and Reinforcement Learning. This is now my primary research interest.
