Kai River Blevins (they/them) is Principal & Founder at Blevins Strategies. Kai most recently served as the Director of Education & Veteran Services at OutServe-SLDN (now the Modern Military Association of America), and they have created and delivered cultural resilience trainings to more than 500 service providers and advocates since January 2018 alone. As Director of Education & Veteran Services, Kai developed and implemented groundbreaking programs to serve the LGBTQ and HIV+ military and veteran communities. Each program entailed dozens of marketing emails, press releases, fundraising campaigns, requests for endorsements, and partnerships with government agencies, non-profit organizations, and corporate sponsors. Kai's success is rooted in their passionate and persuasive writing style, informed by multi-genre expertise in poetry, flash fiction writing, creative non-fiction, and technical writing. Kai was also the Coauthor and Citation Editor for a major legal and policy publication for service members, veterans, and their families. As a policy expert and community organizer, Kai has worked with numerous organizations across the country on prominent legislative and regulatory initiatives in a strategic advocacy and communications role. At the federal level, Kai led a regulatory advocacy campaign with a coalition of national legal and policy organizations regarding a Department of Veterans Affairs proposed rule. They have also consulted organizations on addressing key national policy initiatives on behalf of their stakeholders. At the state level, they ran a congressional primary campaign, led outreach and coalition-building efforts on economic justice and civil rights campaigns, and served on advisory councils for organizations in the policy, arts and culture, social service, and health care industries. Finally, their work at the municipal and community level has resulted in improved civil rights protections for marginalized groups, implementation of culturally resilient programming and procedures at health clinics and homeless shelters, and changes in university administrative policy to better serve diverse students.
