Over the summer of 2011, I created a web gadget for Tucson tattoo shop and art gallery The Magic Fun Store, in which proprietor Bruce Gulick "paints" random paintings. The original idea was Bruce's to craft an "idea generator", in which random combinations of variable sets (subjects, actions and environments) would describe a scene that he would then use to make tattoos or paintings. To realize this, I coded an interface in Inform 6, so as to emulate old Infocom text games from the 1980s, and created descriptions, dialogues, and characters to interact with.The Bruce character, for example, will paint a new idea every turn, while a wandering homeless man outside spouts random phrases, and baristas in the adjoining Epic Cafe change shifts.
