A few things that I keep in mind when writing a proposal are: my skills and experiences related to the given task, my honest assesment on the length of time it would take and I make sure that the proposal doesnt sound "too good to be true." If i think there are parts of the task that would be challenging for me, I mention that in the proposal as well
