I've worked with integrating PHP into both new and previously existing MySQL databases (as well as other databases including ODBC sources such as Microsoft Access). I have been doing web site design since 1995 however have recently migrated to focussing on web development as opposed to design. I also have experience doing traditional desktop software development including work in Java and C++ and have knowledge of socket programming and feel very comfortable working with the Java SDK.
