Developmental editing—one of my passions and one of my strengths—focuses on your work’s content, overall structure, organization, and other global elements and takes place before copy editing.
Whether your manuscript is fiction or nonfiction, as your developmental editor, I either deliver a detailed revision plan for you to consider when you prepare your next draft or I will work in consultation with you and make the developmental changes directly in the manuscript. If you choose to receive a plan and revise the manuscript yourself, the plan will include a description of the manuscript’s strengths and weaknesses and suggestions for enhancing the work.The comments are organized by category and by relative importance to the work. Specific examples are cited by page, paragraph, and line for easy reference. Conversations between author and editor typically follow delivery of the revision plan.
If you choose applied developmental editing, I will work with you closely throughout the edit to assure that any major changes or significant points have your approval or collaborative input before they are implemented.
As a full-service editor, I also offer substantive editing, copy editing, and proofreading.
