I am John Hatherly, a Texas-born designer, artist, illustrator, typophile, & brand strategist living in Chicago. I've had an interesting life so far, and there's not much I'd change, given the chance. I've lived in 5 states, played an 8 hour tennis match, kicked a shark while surfing, played a perfect game of pool, saved 2 people's lives (not at the same time), studied Mathematics & Economics at Loyola University-Chicago, ran a marathon without training, co-fronted a hip hop group, and unknowingly played "Marco Polo" with a cop. In my defense, my eyes were closed... I've spent countless hours in museums, restaurants, lectures & bars . I've seen many sunsets... and sunrises. The point of all this? I don't believe good work happens in a vacuum. Design is not a nine-to-five job, it is my window to the world. My work is the sum of my experiences, observations & reflections, laid out in a plea for wonderment. I'm currently working on my first exhibition titled, "IAMI", an investigation of the relationship between gender and color theory, and am always open to discussing new projects.
