I work very well under instruction, in fact I'm quite strict about following guidelines to the letter, but because my clients have learned to trust my ideas and my work, I am used to working on my own and managing nicely. Usually I am given whatever info is available and then most of the clients ask me to come up with something that suits their objectives. I've created concepts and entire campaigns with just the basic sketch of a project. i do like however to check in occasionally to make sure I'm still within the limits of what the client wants. Many companies I work for already have graphic designers but still hire me to create a concept and illustrations for their projects and promotions.
