I also design and produce newsletters, periodicals and reports for organizations for both internal and external distribution. In my view, design must carry a reader smoothly through any narrative, with emphasis and illustrations placed to add to the experience, not make it more cluttered or cumbersome. You want those considering your message to come away with a perception of you that speaks to precision, authority and currency. And the design should never break the comfortable spell of a fine novel. I have worked with authors to get their print books launched with Ingram/Lightning Source, CreateSpace, Lulu, and Blurb, as well as private printers who provided custom specifications. I've put eBooks books up on Kindle, iBooks, Kobo, Nook and through Smashwords, and I am familiar with the specs and procedures they set down. As part of my design/formatting service, I provide basic advice to guide self-publishing authors through the process of getting their book up for sale in good order.
