I edit. To me, editing means helping a writer say what he or she wants to say and say it clearly, cleanly, and powerfully. At one level, that means copy editing, proofreading, or as I like to say, "comma catching." Maybe there's a typo, a wrong word, or a missing punctuation mark. I catch those. If your project requires them, I can format citations too. At a higher level, it also means examining your argument. That's essential if yours is an academic project, but it's also helpful if you're making an argument for the public, or if you're telling a fiction story that makes a point. I can spot gaps in your reasoning and offer objections you might want to address. This is one of my strengths: I'm a trained philosopher and lawyer, which means I have specialized in arguments. Similarly, if your project tells a story, I can look for inconsistencies in the facts (or fictional "facts"). If it's set in a fantasy or science-fiction universe, I can help you make sure that universe is internally consistent. Beyond editing, I design print books and make ebooks.
