Editing & Proofreading

$15/hr Starting at $50

When you are writing to be read (books, short stories, articles, etc.), you must put your work in front of an editor. The ideal editor works like a ninja (quickly, quietly, and with deadly force) to find and fix errors, to root out issues with characters, plots and structure, and to kill your darlings, i.e., the passages and elements that aren't working but that you are reluctant to cut. The passion you have for your work is important because it is why you write. But that passion can keep you from seeing problems and fixing them. As a ninja editor, I balance the needs of the reader with the passion you feel, often on a razor's edge. I specialize in developing long-term relationships with writers and guiding them through the editing process, as well as helping them submit their finished work to publishers and agents. I also help those writers who choose the path of self-publishing, which is gaining momentum and putting power back into the hands of authors. My editing style is about constructive criticism and encouragement. Be aware, I will be hard on you. That is how writers get published, and how they publish their best work. But I won't just tell you something doesn't work, I will tell you how to fix it. If you have produced several drafts and are ready to send your manuscript out, a line edit may be perfect for you. A more intense edit (including a line and global edit) is ideal if you're still on the first or second draft of your manuscript, if you have a partial manuscript, or if you are struggling with resolution for the story. If you are ready to take your writing to the next level, if you are willing to work hard, and if you are determined to be a better writer, contact me and we'll get started! I work with a limited number of clients at any given time in order to give each one my full attention. My philosophy is that I don't want *all* the clients, just the best ones!
