I am the senior controls engineer for start-up Lightning Hybrids currently using National Instruments cRIO hardware and LabView with RT and FPGA software, formerly using PIC18 microcontrollers (programmed in C) on a custom designed PCB using a Bluetooth interface to tablet display (via custom Android app and alternatively, web page) while communicating to the vehicle's CAN bus via the OBDII connection.
