Hello, my name is Anja. I was born and grew up in Germany, where I lived until the age of 28. Then I moved to England, where I started a family. I have lived and worked here for 23 years now. I'm fully bilingual, although my mother tongue is German. My work is as a Kindergarten teacher, where I work with a group of children from 3 to 7 years old. I'm also the manager of my department, where it is part of my job to write official documents such as policies and procedures, risk assessments, meeting agendas and minutes and reports. I communicate a lot via email with parents, colleagues and other agencies. I have been on the school's safeguarding team for over 2 years, and this sometimes involves quite sensitive wording. I enjoy writing letters, a rare art in this day and age. For me, they are just another way to tell a story. Quite a long time ago now I worked as a translator for North-South Books, translating children's books from German into English. I did this for about 2 or 3 years, until the company went bankrupt. I also began teaching again and didn't have time to pursue my translating career further. Recently I have started writing for BoostContent. This is agency work, mainly writing articles for blogs and websites on a great variety of subjects. I enjoy the challenge of writing about a subject that I wouldn't otherwise ever think about very much. From a young age I have had a love for languages and for the written word. As an older child and young person I devoured lots of books and I am now as proficient in reading books in English as I am in German. I am on a sabbatical from my work as a teacher this school year and it is my aim to use this time to explore other talents I know I have. Writing and translating is my main area of exploration. The other is arts and crafts. I feel very excited about the prospect of having an expanse of time stretching out in front of me, where I can do some self-exploration and re-discover and develop some of my latent skills.
