Fall's HOTTEST denim trends

$5/hr Starting at $25

Not last year's blue jeans! Fall's HOTTEST denim trends - plus how to transform a boring pair in your closet into a $700 designer look-a-like

Labor Day is right around the corner and fall is quickly approaching. Is your wardrobe caught up?

Before going on a shopping spree for nonessentials, start with the staples: jeans.

Next to chunky knit sweaters, there's nothing more 'fall' than a crisp new pair of denim. But this season, our trusted blue jeans have taken on and entirely new form.

This season, it's all about slashes - just look at street style stars Emilie Joseph

Ellie Delphine strutted  her stuff in Copenhagen, wearing the hottest pair of the season from Maison Margiela

Distressed denim is so last year.

This season, it's all about slashes - just look at street style stars Emilie Joseph and Ellie Delphine.

Emilie was spotted on the streets of Paris, while Ellie strutted her stuff in Copenhagen, both wearing the hottest pair of the season from Maison Margiela.

The trendy style sits high on the waist and has a classic five-pocket construction, and boasts large unexpected slashes at the widest part of the leg.

Unfortunately, this designer pair will set you back a whopping $700, but with a measuring tape, piece of chalk and scissors, it's an easy DIY.

Using an old pair of high waisted jeans that could use an update, start by measuring the distance from the top of the waistband to the front of the knee, then draw a horizontal line at the middle mark and extend the line to the center of the back of the leg.

Use a sharp pair of fabric scissors and slowly cut along the drawn line; cutting through one leg at a time.
