FIFA explained that the clubs reached the highest ever level of spending at 7.36 billion dollars to conclude player transfer deals in the mid - year transfer period for 2023.
"FIFA" explained in a statement that the figure reached in the period between the first of June and the first of September represents an increase of 47.2 percent compared to the mid-year transition period in 2022 and an increase of 26.8 percent compared to the previous record for the same period recorded in 2019.
Emilio Garcia Silvero, FIFA's chief legal and compliance officer, said: "England topped the list ...With regard to spending on transfer fees 1.98 billion dollars, the number of incoming deals is 449 and the number of deals moving abroad is 514,"he said.
"Saudi Arabia came in second place in terms of spending with a total of 875.4 million dollars, after a group of players such as Brazilian star Neymar, Senegalese striker Sadio Mane and Brazilian midfielder Fabinho signed with Saudi clubs,"he added.
France (859.7 million dollars) completed the first three positions among the largest spenders on player transfer deals, ahead of Germany (762.4 million dollars), Italy (711.0 million dollars) and Spain (405.6 million dollars).
