Former NASCAR driver Bobby East was stabbed to death at a Westminster, California, gas station Wednesday.
He was 37.
According to Westminster authorities, they responded to the gas station following calls reporting a stabbing. They found East, who was stabbed while fueling his vehicle, “suffering from a serious stab wound to the chest area.”
He was transported to a local hospital where he died.
Per Deadline, East reportedly got into a war of words with Trent William Millsap, 27, while the driver was pumping gas. It wasn’t clear what sparked the argument, but Millsap allegedly plunged a sharp object into East’s chest.
According to TMZ, Millsap, who is described as a transient, was shot and killed after a SWAT team executed a search warrant at an Anaheim-area apartment Friday where officers were informed Millsap may be holed up.
During the raid, an officer-involved shooting occurred and TMZ reports Millsap was shot and killed on the scene as the police were trying to arrest him.
East won 22 USAC National Midget feature wins, was a native of Torrance, California, and the son of USAC Hall of Famer car builder Bob East.
The younger East also was a three-time champion on the US Auto Club circuit and competed in the Xfinity Series and the Truck Series in 2008. East also won the USAC Silver Crown championships in 2004, 2012 and 2013.
