France.. Emmanuel Macron re-elected for a second presidential term
Outgoing President Emmanuel Macron was re-elected today, Sunday, for a second presidential term, ahead of the leader of the National Rally, Marine Le Pen, according to preliminary results issued after the polls closed at eight in the evening (Paris time).
The leader of the Republic on the Move party received 58 percent of the vote, compared to 42 percent for his right-wing rival.
According to preliminary estimates reported by the French media, the abstention rate, one of the main bets for these benefits, was 28 per cent.
During the first round, Emmanuel Macron won first place with 27.85 percent of the votes cast, followed by Marine Le Pen who won 23.15 percent.
During their first confrontation in the second round of presidential elections for 2017, Macron led with a wide margin estimated at 66.1 percent of the vote, compared to 33.9 percent in favor of Marine Le Pen.
All opinion polls gave the outgoing president the lead, whether in the first round or during the campaign between the two rounds, but with a narrow difference from the leader of the National Assembly.
The official and final results of the poll will be confirmed on April 27 by the Constitutional Council.
