Freelance Writer

$15/hr Starting at $30

I started writing as a child and never stopped. I have produced technical and marketing communications pieces for two major medical manufacturers. The purpose of these materials was to provide technical data in a form palatable to lay readers, create training materials for national sales staff (including how to sell products), and to make an emotional connection with end users. Most recently, I served a Seattle-based managed services provider (MSP) as a marketing professional. I created their website, produced all web content, print marketing pieces and email campaigns. I enjoy taking on subjects that are difficult to grasp and distilling them to their most pertinent points, then making them easy to chew. These articles were directed at our customers who were not necessarily technical in nature. It can be difficult for an MSP to make that leap and step out of their highly technical mindset and into the shoes of the end user. The blog I produced made this leap possible. Some articles were directed to business owners and demonstrated how technological innovations can improve industries such as construction or education; reduce costs and increase safety. Some were directed at end users such as project managers, assistants, and consumers. They focused on education--whether it be how to put cybersecurity to work for the protection of themselves and their companies; or how thinking outside of the box could make WIFI accessible to even low-income school districts. I can easily adapt my writing style to the needs of the business, whether it be technical and formal or casual and fun. This ability allows me to take on a wide variety of assignments covering most any subject. I have an exceptionally large vocabulary--testing at fifth-year college level when I was in high school. I have written and self-published a Celtic fantasy novel and am working on its sequel. I plan to write additional novels, short stories, and blog articles as my full-time occupation. I value the freedom freelancing provides me. That desire for freedom in no way compromises my work ethic. I have always been a solid, hard worker; known to produce impressive amounts of high-quality work. There is more to being a successful writer than getting lots of work done. Ethics are the foundation of my process. While there are very few original thoughts, there are certainly original ways of expressing those thoughts. I take a carnivorous approach to research—tearing apart each article and letting it digest before I ever sit down to write. I will read 20, 30 or even more articles about the subject I am pursuing and file each one away for future reference. I keep going until I am confident I have sufficiently educated myself on the subject. Then—and only then- do I write. I rarely refer to the articles during the writing phase to avoid any possible plagiarism. When the article is finished, I review the materials once more to ensure I have accurately captured the details and the essence.
